I used this board because it was recommended on Tonymac's site as a good piece of hardware for hackintosh. I'm sure it works great for Windows as well. I've gotten everything working except sleep mode as I haven't taken the time to sort it out (I rarely use sleep as I just usually leave my computer on 24/7). But the sleep is supposed to work and plenty of others have sorted it out so I assume it shouldn't be an issue.

I bought this motherboard to build my Ivy Bridge Hackintosh and was extremely happy of how simply it was to set up the BIOS and easily overclock my Intel 3570k i5 CPU to 4.2GHz using air-cooling heatsink. Installed mac OS X 10.8.2 with very little hoc-ups along the way. Using a Nvidia GTX 670 video card with the mono and games simply are smooth as butter. Currently getting 100 to 180 FPS in warcraft with high settings. Highly recommend this mobo for any PC/Hackintosh build.

After a thorough review of most available Z77 motherboards, I decided to give this Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H a try. For me, it came down to this board or the Asus P8Z77-V Pro or Deluxe. Since I did not care about built in WiFi or Thunderbolt compatibility, I opted for the lower priced Gigabyte board that (other than the features mentioned) offers everything the Asus boards have and then some. I had not purchased a Gigabyte board in at least 10 years as I always found Asus boards met my needs better. The one exception was an EVGA P55 board purchased four years ago (big mistake, they can't seem to get their BIOS right).

This is what I have in my system:

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H
Intel Core i7 3770K CPU
Thermaltake Water2.0 Pro CPU Cooler
G.Skill F3-14900CL10D-16GBXL RAM (2 x 8GB - I have two of these kits installed for a total of 32GB ram to run virtual machines)
Corsair 620W modular PSU
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Intel 520 SSD 240 GB for OS and Apps
Western Digital 1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive for data
ATI Radeon 4670 with 1 GB RAM (I am not a gamer)
Pioneer Blu-Ray burner
LG DVD burner
AFT Pro-35U USB 2.0 card reader

All of the above are installed in a Coolermaster Storm Scout case with 4 front USB 2.0 ports and a front eSATA port to which I have a 1TB external drive attached for backup and archival purposes. A 2TB external drive is attached to a rear USB 3.0 port. (I have yet to install the 3.5" two-port USB 3.0 bracket in a 5.25" bay in the Coolermaster case although I am planning to do so).

I have a 13TB unRAID NAS I built for long-term storage of photos, videos, ripped DVDs, blu-ray discs, documents, etc.

After running this system for a week, I have had zero issues.

Things I really like about this MB:
- BIOS/UEFI - I don't use the 3D BIOS gimmick - I use advanced mode and it has a ton of BIOS setting features
- board layout (everything was easy to get to even when mounted in my mid-tower case)
- lots (5 I believe) of onboard fan connectors
- 8 SATA ports (although I doubt I will use them all since I push most storage to my NAS)
- 1 eSATA port on rear panel - I still have external drives with eSATA interfaces which is much better than USB 2.0
- 3 onboard USB 3.0 headers + 2 USB 2.0 headers
- 2 NICS (one connected to my WiFi router - one connected to a test network)
- IEEE 1394a port on rear panel (I still have a few old miniDV tapes to capture and a lot of MB manufacturers are abandoning firewire in favor of USB 3.0)
- Easy overclocking when I am ready to do that (I tried it briefly and it was a breeze)

My board came with the latest available BIOS (F14). After I installed the board, it booted on the first attempt with no issues. I set up the BIOS and then installed Windows 7 on the SSD in AHCI mode. I did not use the drivers on the included CD. I had download all the latest chipset, USB, audio, NIC, etc. drivers from the Gigabyte website and had them ready to go on a USB stick. I installed these drivers after installing the OS and I have had zero driver issues. Everything is functioning as it should. All USB2, USB3, eSATA, firewire, NIC, audio and other ports/drivers are working 100%.

My monitor (an HP LP2475w 24" 1920x1200) has a built-in 4-port USB 2.0 hub and the board has no problems with it either.

I also have no issues waking the board from an S3 sleep with the keyboard or mouse. Maybe that is fixed in the F14 BIOS. I do not have to press the power button to wake from sleep as some have reported. Whatever the early issues were with this board, they seem to have been resolved, or, I just got lucky with a very good board.

I do understand that some people have had issues (especially early on) with BIOS and drivers or they have received a bad board (it happens, unfortunately). I am just happy that I have had no issues or failures and, so far, I have nothing remotely bad to say about this board. I will update this review if anything changes.

==== UPDATE December 23, 2012 =========

The board continues to function flawlessly, however, I thought I would add a word of caution concerning the USB 3.0 connectors on the motherboard. Of course, this applies to any motherboard with USB 3.0 connectors and not just this motherboard.

1 - The pins in the 3.0 motherboard connectors are very fragile. It is *very, very* easy to bend the pins inadvertently. On the upper USB 3.0 connector on this board, two pins bent so badly that they were touching and prevented the board from posting, it would power on and then power off almost immediately, I traced the problem to the bent pins which bent when I inserted the front panel USB 3.0 port connector cable into the MB socket. Even though the cable connector slid into the MB socket, these pins bent so badly that they were flat against the bottom of the connector. When I straightened them out, the MB posted fine, but, one of the pins broke off. This USB 3.0 socket is now useless. This seem to be a common complaint concerning USB 3.0 pins vs. the relatively much more robust pins of the USB 2.0 connectors. Be very careful when inserting anything into a USB 3.0 socket.

2 - The two USB 3.0 connectors at the bottom edge of the board are so close together that some cables (depending on the connector width) will not fit in the connector if a cable is in the adjacent connector. I had to use a hacksaw and saw off one side of the rubber cable jacket very close to the 20-pin socket so that cables could go in both connectors. Since I ruined the upper connector, I had to use both the lower connectors to support my front-panel USB 3.0 ports and USB 3.0 card reader.

I've had this board up and running for about a week now to replace my good old faithful Core 2 Quad. Had it not been for my old motherboard failing I would still have been happy w/ the Core 2. Once the prices of Ivy Bridge come down I intend to upgrade and pass the 2600k along to the kiddies.

I was originally waiting for the release of Ivy Bridge but I saw a great deal on the 2600k so I decided to go with it. The install went well. High quality materials and great build quality. This is my first board w/ a graphical BIOS and it was ok to me. (kind of like dragging someone out of the DOS world into Windows 3.11). The BIOS felt a little clumsy to navigate through but I think that it was just me having to adjust coming from a text only BIOS.

Admittedly I don't have much patience anymore for researching proper vcore, multiplier, etc for overclocking and the stock speeds were just fine but the BIOS made it so simple to overclock that I opted to try for a mild 4.1 ghz OC. With ambient temp of 70f the CPU runs great at idle temp of 30c and after 30 minutes on prime95 63c.

Benchmarking my SSD using the Intel SATA controller and ATTO yielded a read/write of 550/515 MBs/s respectively. On a MSI z68 board with a 3rd party SATA 3 controller I was using for testing only yielded a 300/250 MBs/s read/write so I am defintiely pleased with the results of the Intel SATA controller on this board.

The only negative experience I've had w/ this board so far is that there was something on my network constantly waking the computer from sleep. I'm pretty sure it was something on the network because as soon as I disabled wake on lan the issue went away. I am not yet going to hold this against the board as I do not know if this is something that is my fault or some issue w/ the board.

If you are willing to give up a few USB 3.0 and SATA 3 ports, and have a slightly lesser quality audio processor, and a non intel LAN chip you can save $30 by going with the UD3H. (also a good board)

**IMPORTANT NOTE**
4/27/2012

Thanks to Sean's comment below I discovered that the default BIOS version F4 which shipped with my MB does not support 1600mhz memory speed with Sandy Bridge. If you want to use 1600 with SB then you must update the BIOS. For me version F6H worked just fine. I am not docking a star for that since by the time I discovered the problem there was already a fix for it.

Excellent quality motherboard that has 99 percent of what most enthusiasts require for inputs and the power button switch on the motherboard is a great thing.

This is my 3rd board purchased, the first two were Asus x68's. Went with the best value for my dollar and purchased the Gigabyte x79 and can not be more pleased. The onboard graphics combined with the easiest features and straight forward bios makes this board an easy pick over the $200-$279 range boards. Very sturdy design, 6gb/s sata, 3.0 USB and a range of future proof features make this the best board for the money.

My build

Win 7
Cooler master haf 210
Gigabyte x79
Corsair vengeance 16gb 1600
Intel 2600k sandy bridge
Gtx 275 EVGA
Corsair pro series 750w
Cooler master CPU hs and fan
Samsung ssd 256 gb

First, the good:

* The board overclocks extremely well
* The board is extremely stable
* The layout is logical and easy to work with
* Plenty of ports
* Cooling is great
* The menu-driven UEFI is excellent.

I was extremely happy with this board until November 19, at which point the Intel NIC started giving me trouble. Gigabyte support is abysmal and they keep trying to point to software and have me cleanly reinstall, although I have made it abundantly clear that a) I have already done this b) I have fully reset the CMOS and c) it occurs in every OS I try, even LiveCD/LiveDVDs, which proved the problem was OS-independent and was not software related. However after three weeks of back and forth emails becoming increasingly frustrated and irate with Gigabyte's lousy support staff, I finally solved the problem on my own. The trick was to flash the EFI/BIOS firmware NOT clearing the DMI pool, then DO NOT reboot and immediately flash it AGAIN, and THEN power down, then power the system up. Since then I have had no problems with the board.

I will update this review later on with more detail on various aspects of the board. Because aside from the glitch with the NIC which was a firmware issue, I am increasing my rating of this board to five stars, with the qualifier that I did experience a frustrating issue with the board, but the issue is now resolved (again, no thanks to Gigabyte support).

Were do I start....This board has no issues with sandy bridge processors. Ivy bridge is a different story.

There is a reason why I am giving this item 5 stars.

With ivy bridge processors currently all versions of the Bios has issues. Even the Beta F8a version. However F8a is usable and stable though.
You have to call Gigabyte and ask for it to get it. This version is not available on their website.
Versions F5-F7 will cause BSOD when the computer goes into sleep mode with the ivy bridge family of processors.
Bios F7-F8a has a hard time to get into the Bios. You have to hit delete 50 times or so when you start the computer.
Sometimes you have to reset the cmos on the motherboard to get into the bios. Once you save changes to the bios that is when it becomes difficult to
enter the bios. The boot menu has the same problem. Hard to access.

However windows performance is excellent and gigabyte support is great. The engineers actually email you for tech support. They are very knowledgable.
When you call gigabyte they answer the phone in an average time of 2-3 minutes. They are very helpful and they do not read you script.
I am using core i7 3770k along with a gtx 480 gpu. 16gb ram.

They asked for the components of my system and are going to build my system in their lab to find out what is causing the issues.

I give a rating of 5 stars for the exceptional customer service. They release new versions of the bios in days not months.

Eventually all issues will be resolved. This is a very good company. Companys like ECS or ASUS you can not even contact.

Currently (Early May 2012) this is the best value for Sandy or Ivy. This is a full featured board with top level performance and top quality parts.
I had tons of issues with this board when I first got it. After updating to BIOS F6 the board has functioned flawlessly. Running 2500k @ 4.7ghz on a Corsair H100. Bumped vcore to 1.25 and upped multiplier to 47 is all it needed.

I've been running Gigabyte boards for years now and this one does not disappoint. Very sexy Black PCB. This board is easy to work with. Dropped in my CPU, memory and video card, booted the pc into the bios set everything how I wanted it and installed windows. Everything worked first time without a hitch.

This board has some nice extras, 8.1 sound which I won't use as I have a dedicated sound card. Can take up to 32 GB of memory ! Nice. Dual Gigabit Lan (schweet) ! and a number of others, too many to list , just read the spec list and you'll see.

Nice job Gigabyte.
I read a lot of reviews and looked at a buch of different motherboards in the price range I wanted to spend for a home computer and I finally decided on this one. It looks great. Worked great and extremely easy to navigate.

I would Highly recommend for anyone building an above average home computer like I built.

I bought this motherboard to run various video production and rendering software, some of which runs only under OSX and others under Windows. My daughter is a video/production student attending college and she needs to learn how to use a wide range of tools in preparation for entering the market.

This card works out-of-the-box with the TonyMacX86 tools to load OSX on homemade systems. Just purchase Mountain Lion from the Apple Appstore, create a bootable USB stick and install. No messing with DSDT's or kexts, no need to spend days playing with configurations or settings. It's just as easy as setting-up a Windows PC.

This system is running a Xeon QC 3.4GHz CPU, 32GB Corsair Vengeance SDRAM, 2GB EVGA Geforce GTX 660 graphics card, 240GB Sandisk Extreme SSD, 1TB WD Blue, TPLink WiFi adapter and Iogear Bluetooth adapter in a Fractal Designs Define R4 case and Intel Liquid Cooling Solution. I'm using it with a genuine Apple wired USB keyboard and Apple Magic Mouse without any issues, and a pair of Asus IPS HDMI LCD panels. The system is screaming fast, temps are low, and its quiet enough to hear a flea fart.

Note: Make sure you get rev 1.1 or higher of this motherboard, as there's a bug with rev 1.0 that prevents you from using the standard speaker/headphone jack under OSX and Linux (the green audio port). Gigabyte fixed this with rev 1.1.

It's a good upgrade from a P67. If you already have an i7 sandy bridge already and realize that the IVY bridge is not much better and overheat when attempt to overclock pass the limit of the previous generation, BUT still feel the NEED of Spending your money on a new piece of tech(like me), then just upgrade your mother board to the Z77 . It is definitely a worthy purchase, in my opinion even if you already have the z68. Why?

You already know most of the features this board offers. They all work right out of the box, well after I put the system together of course. The M-sata slot is a cool little feature to show off inside a windowed case. You might have watched more than a few video unbox on youtube so am not gonna mention anything more about the feature. Except that the new placement of front audio connection port makes so much sense now than it used to be (next to the front USB ports rather than on the mid left side).

I thought the blue VRM heat sinks gonna look bad but it grew on me. Anti-static dust and humidity protection PCB makes it an appealing feature for a fairly open case. I chose to go with gigabyte because of those features. I'm not too keen with the fancy features such as thermal armor from asus or the 3 and 4 ways SLI features that higher end boards (G1 sniper, Republic of gamers). Since 2 ways is all I need, especially with my 2600k(doesn't support pcie 3.0). However this board has pcie 3.0 therefore if intel release better Ivy bridge version with better thermal output then you'd be ready to slap that new cpu on ur MB.

3D bios kinda cool I played with it a little bit. You have the 3d model of the board that you can use ur mouse to click on every parts to check or adjust the settings.

It comes with a front bay USB 3 header, very thoughtful of gigabyte (This cost $14 bux if purchased from store). I have a corsair 800d, anyone who owns it, knows that it does not have the USB 3 internal header but the 2 pass through cables for its own front USB. So you could use this inclusion as an internal USB3 adapter. The intergraded sound is actually better than a lot of other previous onboard. So this is why I went with the UD5 instead of UD3.
I went with Gigabyte as a brand because of brand loyalty as well as my previous experience with their customer support. I can't say anything bad about the others brand but I'm not one willing to test the fire.

This one is a very complete motherboard for its price. Has a lot of features and possibilities like SLI and crossfire without having to spend a lot on a more expensive motherboard. It also includes WiFi and the possibility to use your smartphone as a remote control for your computer.

This motherboard has everything and then some. The wireless adapter for anyone who is wondering is awesome. I play games with it and never have any issues with it. Any lag or anything like that has just been caused by my ISP. Also it is very to assemble. It is literally a matter of sitting the chip on the motherboard pins and then putting in a tiny screw. Just do it before you assemble the machine first. As for the antenna it pops in the back and sticks to the side of the case. Also I love the UEFI Bios it is very easy to use and this motherboard has plenty of fan controllers.

I couldn't have been happy going with this board. Allot of the features are well thought through unlike the fluff you sometimes see just to make the box look more appealing. I am running a i7-3770k, 16 GB of G. Skill, Plextor M5 SSD (primary), WD Green (data drive). I haven't put a video card in it yet, relying on the integrated Intel graphics chip for the moment. I was stunned by the windows experience scores. The SSD topped the scales at 7.9 (of 7.9). I have it connected to Asus version of the SATA III 6.0 Gbps connection versus the standard SATA III. The Processor and the Memory scored a 7.8. The integrated graphics scored a 6.6 which is exceptional.

The board is actively managing the voltage levels along with clock speeds. Everything about it is fast but also extremely stable. No crashes or hang-ups yet after the first couple of weeks. The WI-FI Go and fan control are great features. ASUS really put some good effort into the included software.

This board has proven to be a great performer. The Wi-Fi setup could use some simplification, but all-in-all this setup represents more bang for the buck. I have not experienced any problems thus far. I'm running an Intel Core i7 3770 with 16 gigs of Corsair RAM. I do recommend this product for its quality construction, reliability, and excellent price for the mid-range.

I went with this board for my son's first gaming PC build. Reading the MOBO manual is a must. The bios is very easy to work with. The built-in wifi has very good reception with the remote antenna. The most nerve racking part was installing the Intel processor.

The 8 pin and 24 pin power plugs are fairly far from each other. Depending on your power supply, you may need some 8 pin or 24 pin extensions.

Everything has been working quite well and the software provided with the MOBO seems to be working just fine. So far, so good.

This mobo is great it has a so many a features for a very good price, it looks amazing especially with corsair vengeance blue memory ram, overlocking with this mobo is actually very easy and the UEFI bios makes it so much simple.

Just a warning DO NOT USE THE CD DRIVERS! Download the latest drivers from asus web page :
[...]

Do that and you can't go wrong with this mobo!

This motherboard has been working flawlessly for 6 months now. The BIOS setup was a piece of cake and it's a breeze to navigate and manage the uEFI is great. The OS side interface is pretty good as well, but I don't use it much. I haven't used the WiFi Go, so I can't comment on that, but all the other spec seem to work perfectly. I also love the blue color scheme (it matches my case, cathodes, and a few other components.

I bought this to go along with my 2 7970's and an i7-3770k. This board has everything I could ever want. Everything is nice and spaced accordingly so no real estate is wasted. Tons of fan connectors so you'll always have all the cooling power you'll need. The integrated graphics are powerful enough to play pretty much any game on at least medium quality. This board is excellent.

However, there is only one gripe I have with it: The Wi-Fi Go! module. Installation was a little clumsy, and the reception is entirely unusable unless you connect the antenna to it. In addition to this, the antenna cable doesn't actually stick into the Wi-Fi Go! module, so you might have to sticky-tape it on. With the antenna, the signal is incredibly strong. That's my only gripe with it. The product is overwhelmingly good otherwise.

Mated this board with an Intel I7-3770, H50 Hydro cooler, 4x4 (16GB) of GSkill DDR3 1600 RAM, a 128GB Samsung 830 SATA 6gb SSD as boot, 1TB WD Caviar Black SATA 6gb for data & production, SATA 3gb DVD/CD read write and a Radon HD 6800 series GPU. Running both fast and cool. Fingers-crossed, no issues so far.

NOTE: It is important that you update the Bios if using INTEL IVY processors! Asus has the download.

P8Z77-V is pretty much like the P8Z68 with some extra features. However, I must say that the I/O Plate Shield could have been much better if they kept to the plastic foam like the P8Z68. Nonetheless, the P8Z77 takes advantage of the Z77 chipset and best supports third generation processors. Works great with the iCore5 3570K. The wifi thing isn't connected at first, as someone has pointed out, but it's really easy to just install, so I don't see why Asus couldn't just put it together as a whole piece.

For gamers that want to know the best benefits, the rear panel in general supports more USB 3.0 ports than the P8Z68 V-Pro, the PS/2 port for keyboards is crucial for gamers that need a faster response in mechanical keyboarding games, games like Starcraft heavily depend on that. USB keyboards just don't give better key roller compared to PS/2 ports and many articles can reference this. So this really, only leaves a one difference in USB port in the back. Both motherboards have setup for front panel USB support, so the extra USB onboard ports on the P8Z68 V seem practically useless to me. There are extra PCI Express 2.0 x 16 than the V-Pro, Wifi so that your PC can be used wherever you are in the house compared to a direct cable from the router. Everything else, they're both practically the same. Remember that the P8Z68-V is more expensive and has less features to boot.

For new builders, I recommend this over the P8Z68 V-Pro Gen 3 for getting the best bang out of your buck. It's cheaper and it has all the functions and more than the P8Z68.

Loved the ease with which I was able to build a new system with this board. The system is very fast and the board responded well to all the components that we installed. The on-board WiFi is a nice bonus for a computer that is located in my son's room (which is down the hall from the router location). I also love the included utilities that allow for monitoring and adjusting various components (Fan X-pert, for example). The GUI BIOS is one of the easiest BIOS that I've had the opportunity to work through.

This board along with the other components has made for a very fast custom desktop that my son will enjoy for a little while before we have to upgrade. By all appearances, upgrades will be fairly easy.

I've built a couple PC's with Intel MB's (back in the Pentium4 days) and have been very happy with their quality and performance. I tried to do that recently and had a really bad experience with compatibility (with an Intel processor!!!). I have known of Asus for many years, just never used their stuff. Well...I'm a convert now!

This MB is well laid out and FULL of features! It's good enough for a low-mid gamer, and perfect for high-end general-purpose machines (what I just built). Fully integrated graphics with 4 different output types, lots of expansion slots, gigabit ethernet plus wireless-N w/ external antenna, built-in HD audio, the list goes on... Honestly, the only thing it doesn't have that I would expect (and it's "big brother" deluxe or pro versions do include) is an eSATA port. But with the growing options in USB3, I don't think that's critical at all.

The software (both BIOS and Utilities) assortment is the major clincher for my conversion. This puts the Intel utilities (even today's offerings) to shame. Everything is customizable down to the last detail. I had fun looking through all the options, but other than setting my boot order in BIOS and setting a fan controller to a min speed instead of allowing it to be turned off when not needed (after "auto-tuning" the fans), I left almost everything else on "Auto". Honestly, the chipset and software are very capable and I've not found anything yet where I feel tweaking the settings will be beneficial.

This is a great full-featured board at a great price! If you don't need gamer-level customization, but don't want stripped-down entry-level features with limited connectivity, this one is a great fit right in the middle.

Edit 2.12.2013 - apparently the board will run Linux, but I cannot personally attest to that.
-----------------------------------------------

Build details (hardware from Amazon):
This board
Intel Core i5-3570K Quad-Core Processor 3.4 GHz 4 Core LGA 1155
Corsair Vengeance Red 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866 MHz (PC3 15000) Desktop Memory (CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9R) (2x4Ghz)
Windows 7 Pro 32 bit Service pack 1
--------------------------

I'm not going to go over or list the board features, all that is well documented on the Asus website, but I will highlight missing stuff or unexpected included features.

First off, the ONLY operating systems the board will officially support are XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8. You Linux types (I are one of those:-) ) need to look somewhere else for your build. [EDIT: apparently Linux will run on the board but I have no direct experience.] If you are still using Vista, I will ask why? Dump that turkey. If I remember correctly, XP won't support USB 3.0 or SATA 3 which are board features.

This Asus board replaced a two year old Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P build that started spontaneously shutting down (like you pulled the plug) and occasionally giving me the 'blue screen of death', ironically an almost identical build (my big tower) has had stability problems almost from day one of the build. Replacing the power supply and memory didn't cure the problem, so time for a new build.

Before my two Gigabyte builds, I had an Asus board that ran faithfully for three or four years and I only retired it due to being too far behind the performance curve, so it seemed like a no-brainer to return to the warm fuzzy feelings I've always had for Asus mobos.

This board has a good layout with everything nicely positioned for easy access. One very minor complaint is the SATA connectors face forward and not straight up from the board. Since both side panels are easily removable on my Gigabyte mid-tower case, there was no problem with connector access. Note if you need Firewire (1394) or Bluetooth, this board does NOT have those features. It does have Wi-Fi GO! - an included WiFi module (only 2.4 Ghz band) that you need to install *BEFORE* you mount the board in the case.

A *very* cool build feature is a separate little header where you can plug in your HDD LED, power, reset, speaker connectors and then you plug that header onto the appropriate pins on the mobo. This is so much easier than trying to get the individual connectors onto the correct pins on the mobo.

This board easily overclocked from 3.4 Ghz to 4.1 Ghz with Asuss' AutoTune, I was very surprised at how effective that feature is - even when rendering video, my CPU temps never go above 60C (at maybe 60% CPU load.) And all of this is with the stock Intel cooling fan. With the relatively mild overclocking (it should OC to at least 4.5 Ghz if you have better CPU cooling), it is extremely stable - I have yet to have a stability issue over a several day period (I have not run Memtest or stressed the CPU though.)

Speaking about cooling, the board will accommodate two 4-pin CPU fans and three 4-pin chassis fans (you can use three or four pin fans.)

Since I'm not a gamer, the on-board iGPU graphics is fine, if I ever feel the need for better video performance, I'll drop a graphics card in.

An install tip for you, if replacing a motherboard and keeping your existing operating system and hard drive (not a fresh OS install), you need to make a change in the BIOS before you can boot into Windows. Go into the BIOS settings and select Advanced> Advanced> SATA Configuration> SATA Mode Selection> and select IDE mode. Then install the drivers. This setting automatically changed back to AHCI after the drivers were installed and we rebooted.

Asus is doing a great job of releasing BIOS updates, the latest is 1616 as I write this review, one of your first tasks should be to update the BIOS.

Asus' utility suite, AI Suite II (2.01.01), works and works well, I'm puzzled about the all of the negative reviews and feelings about this suite. One minor gripe is with the Probe II monitor utility. Here you can set alarm parameters for voltages, temperatures (CPU and mobo) - the complaint I have is the lowest fan alarm rpm you can set is 600, problem is my chassis fans will spool down to 300-400 rpm. I'd rather have the fans spool down than run them at a minimum of 600 rpm to keep the dust bunnies out of the case.

Wi-Fi GO! is interesting. I played with the remote desktop feature on both my Acer Android tablet and my iPhone 3gs, both worked and worked well. Also, Wi-Fi GO! provides plain old WiFi connectivity, there is no need to use any of the gee-whiz features of the application utility.

A caveat when you install AI Suite II - Avast did not like the software and kept it from execution, I had to exclude the Asus program directory from the Avast scan. Your security application might also have issues with the Asus suite since it is accessing the hardware/BIOS. (I got tired of Avast nagging me to upgrade so I uninstalled it and installed Microsoft Security Essentials.)

The documentation is very good and not written in 'Chinglish', Asus must have very good technical writers very conversant in English. One documentation weakness is not a thorough explanation of the zillions of BIOS tweaks you can make. In most cases the option descriptions are very basic and many of them left me puzzled as to why/what/how.

Final thoughts:

Good board that easily met and surpassed my requirements and expectations. I also liked the Asus utility suite. I chose the Core i5-3570K to keep the build costs down a bit, but for a performance build consider a two core (with hyperthreading) or a four core i7.

If still undecided about the PZ77 Asus boards, there are many very good YouTube videos out there - look for those videos that feature JJ from Asus - he is their Senior Technical Marketing guy and extremely knowledgeable about the board series. (In fact, even if you are buying the board, watch some videos!)

This motherboard is very nice. I built a system from scratch with a i7-3770K CPU and 32 GB RAM with a eVGA video card hooked up to three 24 inch monitors and the system runs fast and quite. It was very easy to install the motherboard and connect everything. Had the system up and running in a few hours. I would also highly recommend the Velocity Micro GX2-W case. It is very easy to install everything in this case and it has nice prewiring.

Been a long time ASUS user and this is the first time I've had to return one. Board just wouldn't boot. As soon as I hit the power button, it would shutdown. I triple checked, remounted everything 3x. I was worried that I might have fried the CPU, so I took the same parts moved them to an older Asus motherboard and all was well.

I asked Amazon for a replacement. I'll update if I get another dud. I'm giving it 3 stars because I hope ASUS comes through and I give it a more favorable review. The board has everything I want.

-- update 11/2

Amazon got it to me in a day :)

As I expected, this motherboard is excellent quality. I don't know what this new BIOS does but Win 7 reboots in under 10 seconds, it's just amazing.

No need to go into pros, this is excellent motherboard. The UEFI BIOS is awesome. Boot time is unbelievable. Performance is darn good. 4.4Ghz on i2500k easy.

Some cons:

1) Not enough SATA cables for all the SATA ports? Why only 4 cables when there are 8 ports?

2) I couldn't find instructions on Wi-fi and how to connect the antenna. I tried twisting it on but I think it's just snap on.

3) It's not clear you need to instal the Wi-fi Go module and affix it with the screw BEFORE placing the motherboard in a case.

4) The 90 SATA connectors does not work well if using a 2 in 1 SSD adapter in 3.5" bay. Should just be straight. Perhaps it's an advantage for smaller cases ?

5) Why isn't there an ISO of ALL the utilities on ASUS website? It's a real pain to download each and every utility and install one by one. I don't install CD/DVDs anymore.

6) USB3 front-panel connector is too shallow. Feels unsecure.

Looks good and has some great features! The Z77 Chipset cooler is gorgeous! This board is great for its price! It has a bunch of high end features such as TPU and EPU. Also, it includes a Wi-Fi Go adapter that can also be used to create a hotspot for your mobile devices! Overall a great MOBO!

Using this motherboard was a pleasure as I had no issues at all. I have built many desktops in my day and this was by far the most trouble free. Love the new BIOS and Windows 8 loaded and found all of the hardware and installed all of the default drivers. Nice...
This is my 3rd Asus MB and after doing some research I decided on this one. If your on the fence about a quality Z77 board this is the way to go. Has lots of SATA ports and setup was breeze. Like previous posters said make sure you assemble the WIFI before installing the MB into the case! My only complaint is I was not able to flash the bios using Flashback, the light flashed for 5 seconds then went solid which indicated there was some issue. I was able to flash it in the bios before installing windows. The BIOS is great, this is my first UEFI and it's so much better. I used the turbo mode to get a safe 4.1ghz OC. I also went with a Samsung 830 256gb SSD and if you have been waiting to switch from mechanical drives it will blow your mind! Anyway, this is a solid board with some great features and you won't be disappointed!

I haven't fully switched over to this board yet, but I've been testing it with the Windows 8 customer preview. It works well with everything so far. The USB3 speed is very fast and the integrated nic is also pretty quick, sometimes I'm able to hit 60MBS on Gigabit LAN. No problems with installation on 8 or 7. Pretty solid product so far.

This board for me has been typical for Asus quality, rock solid. I have had no major issues with the motherboard. I'm running a Core i5 3570k at 4.7 Ghz with 16 gigs of Corsair Vengeance 1600 ram. This board comes with several great features I really enjoy. The easy BIOS update is great, update from windows with Asus update or from a USB flash drive. The UEFI Bios makes tweaking a breeze. This board boots very quickly, sometimes I don't have enough time to hit the delete button. The integrated WiFi works flawlessly. Basically, this board has every feature I could possibly need, which is why I didn't opt for a more expensive model. The Asus utility suite has some pros and cons. The auto tuning feature worked well for me, but further teaking from the app didn't go so well. Here's my major gripe, the tuning app set my vcore to 1.5v without my input. OC profiles wouldn't save so evey time I reboot the PC I'd have to reapply my settings. I ended up doing my overclocking directly from the BIOS and I've had no problems since. My other gripe is in the windows app you can set your vcore with a slider bar, in the bios you can either go full manual or offset mode. I don't find trying to manipulate the vcore offset to be as user friendly as sliding a bar to your desired max vcore. Also, I haven't been able to get consistent results out of the offset settings. I'm running +.080 to get my desired 1.28 vcore which seems to be counter intuitive to everything I've read (vcore - desired vcore = negative offset). As of this date I'm running the most recent BIOS, maybe in the future the vcore adjustment could be a little easier.

Putting my little issues aside, I would buy this motherboard again and I will continue to buy Asus in the future.

I really love this board! The design is great and very sleek especially after my old P55 board. I'm running a brand new i7 3770K and a gtx 670 in it with 8GB of G-Skill RipJaws DDR3 1600mhz RAM (which it recognized imediately and set correct speed/timmings#. The UEFI is a breeze to navigate through with a lot of good features.

There really isn't much to differentiate between motherboards nowadays, so I chose ASUS for their great AI Suite utilities. The Wifi-GO of Asus is really quite cool and I can stream my desktop to my ipad2 and other compatible wifi devices around the house. There is also a great OC utility that you can run from windows which will find and optimize the near best OC for you #have a look at the PC Prespective live review of ASUS Z77 overclock on youtube#.

I went with the V over the V-Pro because I really didn't need more mobo Fan headers/or the bluetooth, and saved a decent amount. One thing I ahve to point out to new builders is to enable RAID mode over AHCI in the UEFI before installing for the first time. I installed windows onto a new Samsung 830 128gb SSD in AHCI mode and later couldn't set up RAID my 2x 500gb raid 0 drives w/o re-installing/restoring windows. There are NO drawbacks to enabling RAID #non-raided drives run in AHCI) but at least it gives you the option to create a new array later on.

I would have given this mobo 5/5 stars hands down except my top 2 USB3.0 ports (the ones on the mobo itself) don't work. They don't provide any power and don't recognize any peripherals connected. I have scoured the UEFI for a setting to enable/disable but haven't found any. It's a shame really because this is a great producd. Anyway, well done to ASUS, I'll update this review if somehow the USB's come to life.

Edit:
The usb problem was caused by driver problems. I recently downloaded a new batch of usb 3 drivers from ASUS and voila, they started working!!! I then re-installed the old drivers to be sure of the cause of the error and again, they stopped working..

This is one of the best Motherboards I have ever purchased or used. I have been a home PC builder enthusiast for 20 years and I have always found ASUS products to be some of the best. I tried a Gigabyte mother board for this project and returned it to Amazon because of hardware compatibility issues. This board worked right out of the box. I do recommend updating the bios immediately for Windows 8 compatibility. The software suite that comes with this board is wide and deep. The Wi-Fi works flawlessly but be sure to mount it on the motherboard before mounting the ATX motherboard in your case. Amazon is also my go to for great prices and support.

This motherboard is the best thing I could ask for. It's got USB 3.0 and will have a thunderbolt connector once they give us an adapter. It's pretty sweet, even has a fast charging for one night when my iPad charger was lost and needed it for work, it was there to finish charging it that night. Already been a life saver once, and still has plenty of ability to do more with sli, and more ram.

I recently built a new computer and wanted to use an AMD processor. My son recommend ASUS , so I called the support department to find out which board I should use and was able to talk with a tech right away that provided all of the information I needed. The mother board comes with a program CD that makes it easy to update the bios without any problems or affect on any of the installed programs. I downloaded the BIOS from the ASUS web site. I recommend the board and company that make it. I also got the board for a good price along with a rebate.

Bought this mobo a couple weeks ago and it has worked great. I chose the "v" version over the "pro" version and saved $30 (the pro version has 4 usb 3.0 ports, the v version has 2). The simple overclocking feature is well worth the price of this board. Enabling the TPU switch on the mobo overclocked my 3770k from 3.5 to 4.2. All with one flip of a switch on stock cooling. Nice! I highly recommend this mobo.
I have several of these boards and I couldnt be happier. I have 3 computers with the board running at full CPU load 24 hours a day (Seti@Home) and rarely have resets/problems. I use them with the Intel 2600k processor. I dont have time to mess with fidling around with voltages and tweaking for max overclock anymore so I really liked the AI Auto Tuning feature. Litteraly one click and it figured out a decent overclock.. 3.5mhz to 4.5mhz. no bloat ware so im happy about that too. Remember your motherboard is only as good as the power you supply it. Dont skimp on the powersupply. I recommend the Corsair PSU's with this board
I know its confusing what brand to buy and what product of the brand to choose. i did a lot of research before buying this one. Many will consider ASRock for the price difference. However, i narrowed down the brands to Gigabyte, Asrock, MSI and asus.

After comparing all together, Asus was the best choice from Quality, OC capabilities, price and Software. im not gonna go into details because the [...] has a gr8 article about these four mainboards so you can read it and compare yourself then choose whats best for you.

Now the hard question was, should i buy this one, Deluxe or pro?

i did a simple trick and went to newegg and compared the three products, all of them are the same except one has more USB 3.0 ports, bluetooth, more SATA 3 ports, more PCIe 1x slot.

the price varies around 100$ between this one and the deluxe just for more USB 3.0 , Sata 3 and bluetooth. However, i dont need these extra stuff and i dont think they should cost that much, so i went with this one, saved 100$ and get other stuff with it.

However, about the product itself, this is the best mainboard -whether this, deluxe or pro- among all of others, very solid, stable. ASUS software bundle is gr8 as well.

If you are thinking of upgrading your PC, this is the best choice to get, good deal on a gr8 mainboard.
